The Mets have claimed Padres lefty reliever Marc Rzepczysnki off of waivers, reports Ken Rosenthal. Given that this is the revocable waiver period, the Padres could rescind the waiver and keep Rzepczynski if they do not reach an agreement with the Mets. Rosenthal reported that the timetable for the deal is unknown, however a deal must be done by September 1st, which is the waiver-trade deadline.
Rzepczysnki is certainly not the pitcher he once was in Toronto and St. Louis, as he now owns a 4.88 ERA this year between the Padres and Indians. But beggars can’t be choosers, as he is certainly an improvement over current “lefty specialist” Eric O’Flaherty.
