Ruben Tejada was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBI’s. Yeah, it was that kind of night.
The Mets offense had everything going for them tonight, collecting multi-hit games from Tejada, David Wright, Kelly Johnson, Travis d’Arnaud, Yoenis Cespedes, and Michael Conforto, the latter of whom hit a homer and drove in a pair of runs himself.
So, back to the inside-the-park home run thing. Yes, it really did happen-probably to the most unlikely candidate next to Bartolo Colon. A soft line drive down the line fooled right fielder Domonic Brown, sending him into the stands, allowing the ball to roll all the way to the wall.
Matt Harvey struggled today, allowing four runs over six and one-third innings, allowing nine hits and strikeouts. The bullpen-Sean Gilmartin, Tyler Clippard, and Addison Reed-was able to shut down the ‘Phils the rest of the way.
After three innings, infielder Daniel Murphy left the game with “slight left quadriceps discomfort”, reports ESPN’s Adam Rubin.
Oh boy, I think we’ve heard this story before.
Remember, Murphy missed June 4-30 with quad problems. I’m sure we’ll hear more about Murphy’s “slight” discomfort, and how minor it is, in the coming days.
The Mets have an off day tomorrow, but will prepare to face the Marlins in Miami this upcoming weekend.
