Updates: Harvey, Uribe, Kirk

Adam Rubin of ESPN tweets that Matt Harvey was a no-show at a team workout at Citi Field this morning. Sandy said it was a mandatory workout to the best of his knowledge, and doesn’t want to comment until he’s heard an explanation.

Juan Uribe is officially ruled out for the NLDS due to chest stiffness, reports Rubin. The favorite to take his place on the Division Series roster is outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Nieuwenhuis, at the very least, adds some pop off the bench in addition to being a defensive replacement in late innings for Michael Conforto or Michael Cuddyer. Those who know me know I’m the biggest Kirk fan, but I must question why Eric Young Jr. is not being considered over him. The Mets already have a defensive replacement in Juan Lagares, and lefty power off the bench in Michael Conforto -Niewenhuis has good speed, but not in comparison to EY. Both have their upside, and it comes down to what characteristics Terry values more.

The postseason roster is expected to be announced soon, as the team sent home Dario Alvarez, Tim Stauffer, Dilson Herrera, Johnny Monnell, and Eric O’Flaherty following the workout this morning.
