Opening Day Preview

STARTING LINEUP & BENCH

What I consider to be an accurate projection of their starting lineup, Anthony DiComo of mlb.com has the squad lining up like this:

  1. Jose Reyes-3B
  2. Asdrubal Cabrera-SS
  3. Yoenis Cespedes-LF
  4. Curtis Granderson-CF
  5. Neil Walker-2B
  6. Jay Bruce-RF
  7. Lucas Duda-1B
  8. Travis d’Arnaud-C
  9. Noah Syndergaard-P

Travis d'ArnaudHe also has the bench consisting of Rene Rivera (C), Michael Conforto (OF), T.J. Rivera (IF), Wilmer Flores (IF), and Ty Kelly (UTIL).

While overwhelmingly an accurate prediction, it appears the Rene Rivera will start Opening Day and progress throughout the season as Noah Syndergaard’s personal catcher. With hope to eliminate the running game against Syndergaard, Rivera will likely start due to his stronger history of throwing out baserunners in comparison to d’Arnaud.

Despite rumblings, Michael Conforto has made this team out of camp. Injuries to Juan Lagares and Brandon Nimmo left Conforto as the fourth and only remaining outfielder on the 40-man roster. With worries coming from the front office about Conforto’s playing time, I’m sure he’ll see enough time across all three outfield positions.
